CHAPTER 2: CAPTURING ■
Figure 2.16 The Project screen
Assuming that you have not previously created a project, the project selection
screen should be blank. From here, we will create a new project. There are three types
to choose from:
Private Project A project that appears only when you are logged into the computer.
Shared Project A project that is shared among the users of your computer.
External Project A project that comes from an external source.
First, click the New Project button. A small menu appears, in which we name
our project and select the format. If you’re using regular NTSC standard video, select
30i. If you’re using PAL video, select 25i.
NTSC video is standard definition video for use in North America and other
regions of the world. PAL video is used in Europe, Asia, and some parts of South
America. Just keep in mind that the two cannot work together. If you recorded your
footage using NTSC, a PAL project cannot accept it; if you recorded it on PAL video, it
cannot be used in an NTSC project.
For now, name the new project “Capture Practice.” After you name it, click OK;
the menu will return you to the previous Project Selection menu. From here, click and
highlight the Capture Practice item in the Projects listing and click OK. Your new proj-
ect will open, and the interface will appear.
To access the Capture tool, choose Tools
> Capture Tool from the main menu.
Now let’s take a look at the Capture tool and its functions.
At the top of the Capture tool, you see a row of icons, as shown in Figure 2.17.
These buttons actually control the capture of your footage. Let’s take a closer look at
what each one does.
