Editing with Keyframes
Keyframes are the backbone of any effect. In scientific terms, the keyframes define the
principle of moments in any effect. Normally, a simple effect such as a wipe would
have only two keyframes: one at the beginning and one at the end. With Free DV and
Xpress Pro, all effects have a beginning and an ending keyframe—they cannot be deleted,
but they can be adjusted. You can also manually define other keyframes.
Each keyframe allows you to adjust or change effect parameters. Wherever you
feel the parameters need change, you can add a keyframe. The system determines what
needs to be done between keyframes to make the effect flow properly. The process
of in-betweening from keyframe to keyframe is called interpolation. At first, adding
keyframes might seem a bit challenging, and you might not get exactly what was
intended. Over time, as parameters are learned, your ability to use keyframes will
improve.
Keyframe indicators are shown in the Effect Timeline underneath the Record
monitor (see Figure 7.16). The indicators are small triangles . The Active
