■ THE AUDIO TOOL
on the selected track(s). This is useful if you want to mark an edit that includes the last
frame of a segment but doesn’t include the first frame of the next segment.
Frame by Frame To move in single-frame increments, hold down the Alt/Opt key and
drag through the Timeline. The system will slowly jog in increments as small as a single
frame.
Expanding the Timeline If your Timeline is short (see Figure 4.28) and you want to
expand it to show more detail, click the Timeline and press the Ctrl/F and ] keys.
Another way to do this is to select the Fast menu at the bottom left of the Timeline and
select More Detail. (see Figure 4.29). You can do this in increments until the Timeline
stops expanding.
Contracting the Timeline If the Timeline has been expanded too far and you want to
see more detail, press the Ctrl/F and [ keys to reduce it. You can also select this from
the Timeline Fast Edit menu by clicking and selecting Less Detail.
Figure 4.29 Here the Timeline is a little too stretched out.
Showing the Entire Sequence To display your entire sequence, press Ctrl+/ or F+/.
Again, you can alternately do this by selecting the Fast menu and selecting Show Entire
Sequence.
Alternatively, you can also use the arrow up and down keys on the keyboard to show
more or less Timeline detail. This is the fastest and most convenient way to use this
tool. This is a trick that Media Composer and Symphony users don’t have!
Figure 4.28 The Timeline is compressed
and it’s difficult to see the video edits.
Note: Using this tool is great for checking for flash frames and viewing tiny edits that you wouldn’t nor-
mally see in the Timeline.
