CHAPTER 4: THE TIMELINE ■
Audio Settings
The Audio Settings selection in the Project window allows you to adjust your scrubbing
as well as the panning of audio on Xpress Pro and Free DV. Let’s take a look at these
controls.
Audio Project Settings
Audio Project settings are settings that you create for a single project (as opposed to
the Audio settings, which are created globally in your system).
Input Settings
As discussed in Chapter 2, you can adjust input settings on your system by going to the
Project window, selecting Audio Project, and then choosing Input (see Figure 4.21). A
small Input slider appears. The Input should be set to zero, which is its default setting.
Figure 4.21 Adjusting input with Audio Project settings
Before you adjust this level, take a look at your input deck. If you can control
output from your deck, do it before adjusting this parameter. If there are no output
controls on your deck, the input to the system can be calibrated here.
Click the slider and move it up and down—this is how the input to the system is
controlled. If you want to return the level to zero, click the +0 icon next to the slider.
Output Settings
Another adjustment that can be made is output. When you click the Output tab in the
Audio Project Settings menu (see Figure 4.22), two sliders appear. You can adjust out-
put levels just as you did using audio input. Again, you should check your deck first to
see whether it has input level controls. Adjusting both input and output levels should
be your last solution.
